Stan Horowitz is an admitted attorney and is able to attend to all your costs and taxation needs. He obtained his B Proc degree from the University of Cape Town in 1982. He has been in the legal field for over 25 years which includes, two years as a candidate attorney with the Cape Town law firm Prisman & Wilson, and over 23 years’ experience, first as a Senior Taxing Master of the High Court (3 years) and 20 plus years as a legal cost consultant and owner of Stan Horowitz Legal Costs Consultancy, which he established in January 2006. In the mid-nineties he gave oral submissions to the Hoekstra Commission on changes to be made to the then Supreme Court Rules (The High Court) particularly with regard to Costs.

Between the years 2008 – 2014 he was seconded by the Department of Land Affairs to do all the costs assessments for the Legal Services Project in South Africa. During 2014 he attended the Rules Board Costs Indaba in Pretoria. At the Indaba he presented oral and written submissions on various aspects of costs. During 2001 he lectured on the law of costs to students from Botswana at UCT. During 2014 he lectured to the insurance industry (LIPCO). He has attended taxations around the country as well as appearing before the Cape Law Society’s taxing committee and the bar council fees committee hearings.

Stan Horowitz has always believed in keeping his consultancy small, notwithstanding that over the years, some of his clients have been the biggest and most successful Law Firms in Cape Town. He has drafted bills of cost and attended taxations in high profile matters, inter alia, the Hugh Glenister matter of public importance pertaining to “The Hawks” which ultimately was ruled on in the Constitutional Court. In 1997 the consultancy drafted bills of cost in the high profile divorce of Charles Spencer (younger brother of Diana, Princess of Wales), absolute confidentiality was instructed, and absolute confidentiality was kept.

In 2011 Stan Horowitz Legal Costs Consultancy drafted and settled very large bills of cost in the well-publicized long on-going litigation between Topmed/Selfmed and Sanlam (Sanmed) flowing from this litigation an arbitration award worth almost R600-million was handed down. The consultancy has a wealth of experience dealing with admiralty litigation and drafting bills of cost thereon and Insolvency Law.
